First ever Momentum Splashdown event took place this summer, July 6th in Whistler, BC. Splashdown is a fun water ramp event in celebration of summer skiing. A chance for the top 10 selected campers from Momentum Ski Camps to compete against the Pro’s, including Mike Riddle, Justin Dorey, Colby James West, AJ Kempainen and more.. Categories for the event included biggest splash, most entertaining jump, spin to win and of course the biggest and best jump of all. Over 500 strong turned out for the show under hot sunny skies, with DJ Ace-Mackay Smith spinning records, bikini clad girls shaking it up on the big jump and MC Luke Van Valin in his finest form directing the flow of positive vibes throughout. Judges included Mike Douglas, Sarah Burke and 2010 Olympic Gold Medallist Alex Bilodeau.

Fellow Momentum Coach Justin Dorey, definitely led the “best crash” category in his first run, after catching one leg on the deck while landing a gigantic double flip, exploding into the flat bottom of the pipe like a grenade.  Luckily, Justin is built of solid brick, and simply brushed himself off, then headed back around for his second run. He redeemed himself on his second run, stomping the double with authority, and flowing into the rest of his large and highly technical run.  Things were looking flawless until the bottom, when he wobbled on one of his switch landings, having to settle for  5th place, a solid result to start off the season.
