Momentum’s 22’ Halfpipe into Airbag

Momentum-2011-Plans

Momentum has a huge private terrain park – the largest skiing-only summer terrain, including 5 lanes of space on Blackcomb’s Horstman Glacier, dialed for progression in Moguls, Slopestyle and Halfpipe. We were stoked to add an exclusive 22′ Halfpipe to our park last summer, built by the 2011 World Championship pipe builder. The smooth transition makes for a much easier ride for all levels and our 50′ by 50′ airbag with both right and left side hits means you can train your tricks safely. The Pipe attracted National Teams to train at Momentum including World Cup skiers from Canada, France and New Zealand.

Other top features include the legendary 80’ Step-Up, Voted Best Jump on the Glacier plus our new SkullCandy Staircase Rail. Add in 2 Airbags, the Water Ramps, a Foam Pit and More Trampolines than ever before, and the learning curve just gets easier!

Other key features:

• Our camp spans both sides of the Showcase T-bar, which ensure our space never gets crowded.
• The Showcase T-bar also has the lowest volume of traffic on the glacier ensuring you get more runs per hour than any other camp – no hiking required.   (Check out the line up in the photo taken!)
• We have a full time crew of diggers who board the first lift every morning to make sure all the features are ready to go when you are.
• We know how to build the best and safest jumps on the glacier.

Here’s a rundown of some of our terrain features, remember that every year we change it up and add new stuff, so whether you’re a first time camper, or one of our many returning campers, there will always be some pleasant surprises:

Table-Tops ranging in size from 5 to 80 feet!

Progression is everything when we design our jumps. Our smallest jumps are perfect for getting comfortable in the air, learning your first 180, trying your first backflips on snow, or getting the hang of switch and unnatural spins.

The medium sized tables are designed for moves like bigger spins, 540s, Rodeos, Misties and Switch takeoffs.

The big tables have a smooth wide tranny big enough for doubles with open possibilities for even more. Chris Turpin helped create and build what has been called the best and safest jump on the Glacier, this was our 80′ step up. He was also the first and only to almost stomp a triple flatspin on this jump.

Airbags (Acrobags)

Our huge 50′ x 50′ airbags will be back again and were an awesome training tool last year. One bag on our 22′ halfpipe for the safest halfpipe training we could ask for, plus two direct jumps (small and large) into another airbag for learning all your slopestyle or mogul inverts.

Rails, Rails and more Rails

Once again progression is everything when it comes to the rail set up at Momentum. From beginner boxes set right on the snow to a wide variety of different length box rails, flat bars, urban style rails, that come in all kinds of challenging shapes from up/down kinks to our 40′ S-Coaster box and huge SkullCandy StairCase Rail for the experts . At some point in every session we make sure our rails get dug in nice and deep so that you can try doing tricks without all the risk.

The Great Wall

Momentum is the only camp with the Big Wall ride and a roller coaster box on top! A challenge to master but always a fun ride to learn. Check out Sammy Carlson’s “Can’t Stop” for a sampling of what can be done on or off this feature.

Bumps and Steeps

programmogul6

Included in our private terrain is the best summer mogul course in North America. If you want to get a few laps in the bumps + hit the jumps, Momentum Freeride campers, have access to the course every day. If you like skiing the steeps, definitely sign up for the first Freeride session. Earlier in the season the snow is deeper and we can access more steep terrain.
